The name of this place is due to the fact that the seabed in this area of the Red Sea is rich in algae. The seabed is sandy and descends gradually until it meets the coral reef which is characterized as a fast falling wall. Along the reef, dives are usually made from north to south if the current allows it. This area is naturally perfect even if you just want to relax and enjoy the seabed while snorkeling.
What to visit and see in Sahl Hasheesh
The complex contains a number of hotels with direct beach views, apartments, villas, retail shops, and shopping malls. The “old part” of the town provides services for shopping, dining, connection to the beaches, the main square, and “the Sunken city”, an artificial coral reef for diving and snorkeling, inspired by the “lost city of Atlantis“. Most of the resort hotels have an on-site diving center.
The beauty of nature at Sahl Hasheesh
Almost impossible to resist the temptation to take a look at Sunken City, the legendary sunken city. It is located a few meters from the shore and consists of a labyrinth of structures and columns designed to reconstruct ancient underwater temples. It is particularly fascinating to observe the rich underwater fauna and flora in such a context.
This series of structures attract a large number of colorful underwater species that are fantastic to watch as they make their way through the sunken valleys and rocks. The route takes about an hour and the price is ten dollars, you can dive from 9 am to 5 pm. The children will then be delighted to see the new fish playground in the region.
