Itinerary

We will pick you up at your hotel to spend a whole day in the area known as Moez Street, an environment full of historical places.

  • Stop 1: Entry through the Old Gate at the south end of Moez Street (I know it with South Gate or Bab Zuwela). As soon as you enter, on the left, you will find the tower above the Gate and the Minerete, which you can climb and have the most impressive view of the area that includes the Souk (Popular Market), mosques, and the Citadel of Saladin.
  • Stop 2: Walking along Moez Street, arriving at Tusun Pasha (Sabil & Kuttab). Sabil is a public water source that serves numerous purposes including charitable assistance to the poor. Below Sabil, the walk leads to the underground storage area, then passing through one of the Mamelucos Complex dating from the 13th to 14th centuries (Mausoleum, Sabil, Kuttab, and Madrassa).
  • Stop 3: Continuing along Moez Street, and visiting Madrassa El Asharaf Brisbay, and then the Qalauon Complex (Mausoleum, Madrassa, and Hospital), which was the focal point of the old community.
  • Stop 4: Quick stop at the Textile Museum, where you will find a unique collection of ancient fabrics ranging from the Pharaonic style to Roman Greek, Islamic, and the beautiful Christian Coptic tunics.
  • Stop 5: The next stop is the traditional ‘Hammam’, (from Sultan Inal) a bathroom and sauna for both men and women (at a different time for men and women).
  • Stop 6: Visit a 17th-century house, which was used by middle-class families, known as ‘Bayt al Sihaymi’, very ornamented, typical of the period, and influenced by Europe and Turkey.
  • Stop 7: A visit to the Hakim Mosque, before leaving through the North Gate of Moez Street. The North Gate was the exit of the Egyptian troops when they left for battle.
  • Stop 8: End of the tour with a brief walk through the gate known as “Bab El Nasr” gate where the troops passed on their victorious return from battle.
