Leaving from your hotel, onboard a private minibus with air conditioning you will reach Saint Catherine at 02.00 am. From there, you will start the ascent to the Mount of Moses to wait for dawn. The walk of about four hours is moderately strenuous but will be interspersed with several stops at the numerous kiosks that stand on the mountain to allow tourists to refresh themselves with tea and sweets and enjoy some rest under the starry sky. Once at the top, the effort of the ascent will be rewarded by the wonderful panorama of the sunrise in the desert, with the rays of the sun infiltrating the slopes of the surrounding mountains.
Not too late, to avoid the heat, you will begin your descent to the monastery of Saint Catherine. According to tradition, this is the place where God spoke to Moses in the form of a burning bush. The monastery is a place of pilgrimage for the three monotheistic religions and is the first destination in Egypt for Coptic Christians. In 2002 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Its library houses a collection of ancient icons and manuscripts that is second only to that of the Vatican in size and importance. At the end of the visit, you will continue to Dahab, where you will have lunch in a typical restaurant, before returning to your hotel in Sharm.
